Crazy! and bedroom paint color!

Yes, that sums up this week hence very few posts (did I even post once this week?)  Let's see, late last week I got handed a new assignment at work; pulling together and designing the new website for our center.  Great opportunity and right up my alley, only hitch...someone has been working on this project for over a year has not gotten anything done and the "big boss" wants it done NOW.  Humm....so since I cannot seem to locate my ruby slippers or my genie lamp I have been working like a mad woman trying to get a presentation pulled together for my meeting with the "big boss".  Thankfully, the meeting was yesterday and went surprisingly well!  YAY!  Sadly, the work is not over but at least can be a little less stressful since I seem to have him on board.  In addition to that a dance studio that I used to work for contacted me to help with a recital project and I have been trying to do that between website presentation creation.

All I can say is YAY for Friday.

Exciting news on the home front: we have selected a color for our master bedroom thanks to Young House Love.  Sherry and John have some of the most amazing ideas for sprucing up a home and I love logging into my google reader and seeing their next project.  Recently, they have been working on their guest bedroom.  They shared the very early pictures of the paint going on the walls and once I saw the color I just knew - that is the perfect color for our master bedroom!  Within hours of seeing their post, we were at Home Depot, tester in hand and paint on the wall.  Eureka!  We have found the color!  Sadly, due to the craziness above we have not had time to paint and are crossing our fingers for no storms this weekend so we can perform the transformation.

Like I said we have not painted yet but here are some pictures of Sherry and John's guest bedroom to hold you over until our painting gets done.  I think their room turned out to be a real knock out!

For more pictures and to see the whole transformation head over to Young House Love!

Outdoor Space

B and I are coming up on our one year anniversary in our house (this April) and we have done a lot of decorating on the inside of the house but with the spring and summer months approaching my mind has turned to the outside of the house.  The front yard was "landscaped" in the broadest sense of the term and is not in bad shape.  The backyard on the other hand is downright sad.  Out our back door is a small porch, you take about 2 steps and are at the stairs down to a small cement pad.  Both areas are really too small to do a whole lot with and eventually I think we would like to build a bigger deck - that is a ways down the road.

My main goal this spring is to put up privacy screens on one side of the backyard.  Our one neighbor has a chain link fence that has seen better days and to be honest an unkempt back yard that I would love not to see.  Solution?  These screens spotted over at Aubrey and Lindsay's Little House Blog.  They built these great privacy screens and filled in between with foliage.  It would hide the fence and we would not be too awful of neighbors for totally fencing fencing in our yard.

Cute, functional and would also give our neighbors some privacy and nice plants to enjoy.  What do you think?

Locket Love

I am in love with these elegant French Enameled Lockets from Beklina.  They would be the perfect addition to many an outfit, the only hard part would be choosing a color.  Which one do you like best?  I think Sand is my favorite, it strikes me as beautifully vintage!

Valentine's Day Treat

Happy Valentine's Day!

Yesterday I decided to go on a bit of a cooking spree and baked Red Velvet Whoopie Pies for the office. Oh My Goodness! are they outstanding (well I suppose were outstanding since they barely made it past lunchtime in the break room).  The recipe can be found here.  Most of all I was really impressed with how simple they were to make!

Try them out and see what you think.  Happy baking!

wee little bit

Has anyone been over to my leigh ashley blog?  Leigh has a Wednesday tradition of doing a little thing called "a wee bit of me Wednesdays".

I thought it was a fun concept and decided to participate this week.  Even though Ashley is on her 32nd Wednesday and I am on my 1st I figured I would use her questions from this week.

{one} ice: crushed or cubed?
not a big ice fan

{two} what is your worst traffic pet peeve?
I have too many to count, especially in TN.  I am not a patient driver.

{three} what room in your house best represents your personality?
this is tough since we are still working on the house but so far I would say the living room

{four} do you save old birthday cards?
I used to.  I had a box full of them but when we moved into the house I did some major purging.  Granted I kept some special ones but most went to the recycling bin.

{five} when was the last time you went on a picnic?
probably the last one was on the houseboat in San Francisco while we were on our honeymoon

our picnic food, all local San Francisco fare, bread, cheese,
hummus, olives and assorted meats

the houseboat we stayed in (LOVED IT!)

{six} do you regularly check your horoscope?
no

{seven} when you’re home, what do you wear on your feet?
usually socks but depending on how cold it is slippers are required

{eight} what’s your favorite gambling game?
I am not a big gambler, actually I am not a gambler at all!  I have never been to casino and have no real desire.

{nine} have you ever written (or started writing) a book?
no,  I am not sure I have enough content to write a whole book

{ten} what is your favorite musical?
ooo, this is a hard one!  I love musicals and not sure that I can pick one favorite.   I will get back to you on this....

I would love to hear your answers to her questions too so I get to know a little bit about you!

Wanna Get Away

B and I were fortunate last summer and were able to get away for 10 days in San Francisco for our honeymoon.  We had the best time and I am itching to get away again.  Just out of curiosity I logged onto Jetsetter this morning to check and see if there were any good deals.  If you are not familiar with Jetsetter it is the same concept as GILT only with hotels.  Exclusive deals on great vacation locations.  Sometimes it is truly a great deal!  We booked our last night in San Francisco through Jetsetter and it worked out great.

I am not sure B and I are going to be able to take a vacation this year but I can still look, right?  Here are only a few of the fabulous deals currently on Jetsetter that I would love to take advantage of.

Make sure to click over to Jetsetter's website for more fabulous locations!  Do you have travel plans coming up?  If not, where would you like to be going?  I would love to hear!

Art Project

First off, I must apologize for my sub-par posting this week.  Work has been busy and I have been spending my evenings working on a project for an old employer (long story).  So my free moments have been few and far between which means, no posting or lack luster posts!  My sincere apologies and I am working on catching up on reading the blogs I follow along with getting back to posting here.

Now onto the good stuff!

If you have yet to hear about Google's Art Project you must RUN not walk to the website.  I am sure that everyone has played around with Google Maps' street view before, we actually used it while we were house hunting.  It was an excellent tool to check out the neighborhood before going out to visit the house.  So we are all thinking Google street view, now think about all of those features in a museum.  Yes, it is possible!

You can now virtually tour 17 art museums around the world.  I am a little beyond giddy about this.  With a background in art I am always thrilled to see art becoming more accessible to the public and this does that in a big way!  Now you can travel to museums in New York City, Berlin and France (plus more) and never leave your bunny slippers.  Doing a report on Versailles, why not take a tour from home?

Does this replace the actual museum?  Of course not, I have been to some of the museums they have "street viewed" and the experience of being there, in the space, facing a canvas twice as big as you has no replacement but it is sure not going to stop me from spending countless hours virtually exploring all of these museums!

Go check it out and let me know what you think.  Enjoy!

Snow Day

No, sadly no snow day here and no snow day in sight :-(.  I have to admit and I know people are going to think I am crazy by saying this but I am really jealous of my mid-western friends who are getting snow!

Wishing everyone a warm and safe snow day, if you are having one!

Happy February!
