Go Time

After reading so many bloggers create long lists of New Year’s resolutions I was inspired by their ambition and have decided to create my own list.  I am not much for New Year’s resolutions as I have a hard time sticking to it but since 2010 was a little crazy* I think it is time to refocus a little and get back into a groove.

*Crazies of 2010: January: After coming back from Christmas with my family I started the New Year with a new job, today is actually my one year anniversary.  April: B and I bought our first home together.  June: my little brother graduated from college. July: Stood as a bridesmaid in one of my best friend’s wedding – three weeks before- August: B and I got married.  In between all of these, there were business trips, visitors, holidays, working on house projects, etc.

Here is the list:

Exercise: As a former dancer and dance instructor I am beyond ashamed of how lazy I have become when it comes to my personal physical fitness.  I have become a slug!  And am totally feeling the consequences, my body is tight and sore and I lack the overflowing energy I once had.  My birthday is in January and I am crossing my fingers for a gym membership!  We do have a gym we can go to at work for free but it is such a sad excuse for a gym it makes me want to work out even less.

Read More: I have a list a mile long of books I want to read, enough said, I need to get cracking on this!

Finish House Projects: As mentioned before B and I moved into our house last April and have been slowly pulling things together.  Slowly because it takes a lot of money to furnish a house and due to the amount of funds this takes we have been doing a spotty job pulling the house together.  A comforter here, a rug here, a piece of artwork here…..you get the picture.  We did decide last night that we need, more for our own sanity that anything else, to finish a room and then move on to the next room.  We’ll see how it goes.

Pay off Debt: Between B and I we have a fair amount of debt.  While some things I am not concerned about like the house, car and student loans I would love to pay off and clip our credit cards.  We never use the cards anymore we are just paying on them.  I think the sooner we can eliminate these evil little plastic things from our lives the happier I will be, also the more money we will have in our pockets each month!

Have craft time: I love to make things but with 2010 being a little hectic and the above money going to house goods and paying bills our funds have limited the crafting supply purchases but this year I would like to at least have one craft project a month.

Friends and Family: Due to the 2010 crazies I feel like my friends and family have sort of taken a back seat to everything going on here.  I need to call more, write more and visit more.

Take advantage of the university I work at:  Working at a university has a great deal of perks which include classes, seminars, performances, etc. that are all made available, some even free.  In the past year of employment here I have not really taken advantage of all of this.

Mostly 2011 needs to be about me.  I know that sounds selfish but after we moved for B’s job I have sort of been aimlessly floating through life and in the process have lost a little bit of me.  I love to be busy and active, meeting new people, spending time with friends, and learning new things.  I do not want to reinvent me just find me again.  Lofty goal I know but I am determined to get out there and make 2011 worthwhile.

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions or do you tend to not go the whole resolution route?
